After three releases featuring the same general agglomeration, the Desert Sessions took a turn for the different with the fourth entry, thanks to an almost completely different lineup recording a year after the previous volumes. Alfredo Hernandez and Josh Homme reappear on a couple of tracks, but otherwise it's new blood like Kyuss/Queens of the Stone Age vet Nick Oliveri, fellow Kyuss refugee Mario Lalli, his Fatso Jetson cohort Tony Tonray, and Masters of Reality frontman Chris Goss. There's even a turntablist this time out, T. Fresh. Various group names like the Eagles of Death Metal and the Green Monarchs are mentioned, but as with the other sessions, things seem generally amorphous in terms of who belongs where. Proto-psych/blues weirdos the Groundhogs get a tip of the hat with a cover of "Eccentric Man," while otherwise it's furry classic FM/bonghit-inspired action as usual on tracks like "Monster in the Parasol" and "Hogleg," plus the intentionally stupid punk-thrash "Jr. High Love." ~ Ned Raggett, All Music Guide [-] Collapse
