Duke Daniels is not a solo artist, but rather an alias for singer/songwriter Dan Clark and his bandmates. Though the group's moniker and the album's cover artwork may indicate otherwise, Help Is on the Way is clearly not the work of one man with a thrown-together backing band, but rather that of a cohesive unit. While Clark's unique baritone commands attention, the band strongly complements its singer rather than fading into the background. Duke Daniels explores the realms of alt-country, roots-rock, and barroom blues-rock, sounding genuinely comfortable with each style. "Runnin' on E" features swaggering piano, haunting vocals and a powerful chorus, while "Following a Star" is an instantly memorable pop song about overcoming obstacles ("How the hell you ever made it this far/Must be a testament of who you are/Or who you'll be/Following a star"). On a album full of strong tracks, "Clarice" and "Baby Please" also stand out.
