Critic's Review

3.5 out of 5 stars Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
This performance by singer Eddie Jefferson (with a quartet that includes altoist Richie Cole and pianist John Campbell) dates from May 6, 1979, two days before he was shot to death. Jefferson is heard in top form doing a retrospective of his career with such pieces as "Moody's Mood for Love," a vocalese version of "I Cover the Waterfront," the humorous "Benny's From Heaven," "Jeannine," "Body and Soul," and "Freedom Jazz Dance"; there are 14 songs in all. If you can put the senseless tragedy of his murder out of your head, this definitive film is quite enjoyable.
