This two-fer is actually a three-fer -- The Toast of New Orleans originally had two soundtrack albums so as to segregate the pop and classical numbers, and both are included here, along with the recordings from That Midnight Kiss. These songs are from Lanza's first two MGM motion pictures from 1949-50, and the film The Toast of New Orleans provided Lanza with his career hit, the number one smash "Be My Love." For some reason the song was omitted from the pop soundtrack of that movie, but it is included here as a bonus track. Lanza's power and control is stunning, and it's easy to see why this operatic tenor was often considered the finest since Caruso. Many of these recordings have been out of print since the original 78s were deleted, making this a valuable document of the early years of Lanza's all-too-brief career. ~ Greg Adams, All Music Guide [-] Collapse
