Critic's Review

4.0 out of 5 stars Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
Since pianist Abdullah Ibrahim is a pianist with a picturesque and orchestral style, it is only logical that he would eventually record with a string section. Ibrahim, bassist Belden Bullock, and drummer George Gray are joined by ten violins, four violas, four cellists, and two additional bassists for this well-conceived project. The arrangements by Daniel Schnyder expertly orchestrate the beauty of Ibrahim's music to the strings, and the pianist rises to the occasion. "The Wedding" is most memorable, but all of the other songs (which include "Mind If," "The Call," and "The Mountain of the Night") are well worth hearing and fit together well in this melodic and thought-provoking suite. Recommended. [The album was reissued in a new CD edition in 2004 by the Canadian label Justin Time, making it more readily available to American audiences.]
