Denise Sullivan, All Music Guide
During Neil Young's limited acoustic tour of 1999, he virtually duplicated the same set for the first few nights, rotating selections from Tonight's the Night, Harvest Moon, and After the Goldrush, while plugging in a few new songs. On this night in Oakland, CA, he mixed it up, unleashing a slew of rarely performed acoustic goods-from the nugget, "On The Way Home," to previously unrecorded country-flavored tunes like "Looking Forward" and "Daddy Went Walkin'." The bonus is that he was particularly "on" and this unofficial recording is nearly flawless as well as crowd-noise- free. In addition to the acoustic guitar readings of "Harvest Moon" and the pump organ accompanied "Long May You Run," there is an epic "Ambulance Blues." The only thing missing is the heartstopping piano version of "Philadelphia" he served up on the tour. Seven tracks from March 5, 1999 in Seattle, WA fill out this must-have collection-for Rusties as well as regular fans.
