Chubby Carrier and the Bayou Swamp Band's album It's Party Time! offers a good amount of variety. The album opens up with "Bernadette," which is a traditional number with a classic Zydeco sound. This album celebrates the way that the Cajuns partied years back, gathering friends and family for house parties. "They Wanna Party Now" adds a unique sound to the guitar work with the use of a voice box. It also uses a great bass riff on the uptempo beat of the tune. On "Funky BSB" the listener is treated to some of Chubby Carrier's signature swamp-funk sound. The listener is going to want to get up and cut a rug on this jazzy, boogie tune. The title track "It's Party Time" kicks off with a fantastic lead guitar intro, then moves into a Zydeco-flavored "Soul Train." As this tune builds an urge to shout, "Come on everybody climb aboard the Zydeco Train, It's Party Time! " might rise -- a symptom of the Chubby Carrier and the Bayou Swamp Band fever. " I Don't Want to Leave You" is a harmonious, romantic number. Overall this is a great party album with funk and variety. It does stray from the traditional Cajun roots music, moving into the swamp-funk sound and beyond. Some may be surprised on how far from their roots the band has wandered while maintaining their quality party style.
