David Glennon, a veteran of the Vulgar Boatmen and the Silos, headmanned his own indie project, the Tonewelders, and peppered it with rollicking, traditional American folk and blues rock. "It's a Guy Thing" has the funny sarcastic bite of Randy Newman in its favor. Lyrically, Glennon is not likely to be accused of taking himself too seriously; case in point: "Plan Z," maybe the catchiest song on the album. Many songs hark back to time-tested song structures of old-time '50s and '60s rock & roll, although a certain overriding languid alt-rock/frothy attitude pervades.
