It sounds as though Brooks instinctively knew which musicians would get his aggressive, technically structured ideas across while still making things swing. Our Mister Brooks showcases several musicians who have gone on to become celebrated names in the jazz field including bassist Christian McBride, alto saxophonist Greg Osby, and pianists Geri Allen, Geoff Keezer and Benny Green. Brooks pulled this material from his albums Neck Packin Jammie, Hangin with Smooth, The Collective, and Smokin Jazz.
