Con su Conjunto y Chano Pozo, Machito & Orchestra by
Arsenio Rodriguez!

Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
This is a very interesting historic CD featuring the tres guitar of Arsenio Rodriguez with three different groups. The first two sessions (six songs in all) are from two of the three dates led by the legendary (if short-lived) conguero Chano Pozo in early 1947. Rodriguez's tres is well showcased on these selections. Singers Marcelino Guerra and Tito Rodriguez, plus many of the key players of Machito's Orchestra, also make strong contributions. The other dozen selections are by Rodriguez's conjunto from 1949, a ten-piece group with three trumpets (including Chocolate Armenteros), pianist Lili Martinez, and singers Carlos Ramirez and Rene Scull. Oddly enough, Rodriguez's tres is much less significant on these performances and he composed only two of the 12 tunes, but the vintage Latin dance music is enjoyable.
