3.5 out of 5 stars Andrew Hamilton, All Music Guide
If you're bothered with birds or squirrels nesting in your gutters, or crawl spaces, playing this album at high volume may rid you of the critters without having to use traps or poisons. Fanta Damba sings traditional African music in a style that is foreign to most ears. It's not meant to be melodic, it's meant to depict daily experiences: experiences, circumstances, and occurrences far different from the plights of those not acquainted with Africa's social/political and living problems. Mali's leading singer uses her beautiful voice acrimoniously straining for notes in cries about war, voodoo magic, and ritual sacrifice. Kora player Mady Tounkara accompanies Damba on ten authentic West African Islamic folk music titles including "Asunka," "Tara," "Miniyamba," "Falike," and "Duga."
