As a near omnipresent pioneer of new age music, there are few ambient musical textures that David Arkenstone has not explored. On Caravan of Light, he takes a geographic journey of sound along old spice routes through Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. While much of the music is delicate and hypnotic and evokes a feeling of exoticness and spirituality, Arkenstone sometimes breaks the spell with the introduction of vocals; one example is "Road to Zanzibar," which features Valerie Fahren where the subtle rhythms of the song are broken by the vocal line.
