The second album from this two-piece, comprised of Connie Lovatt and Ed Baluyut, is a fine work of thoughtful, melodic indie rock. Lovatt handles more of the vocal duties here, providing whispery, breathy words to augment the instrumentation. One technique frequently used in indie rock is contrasting a softer part of the song (say, the chorus or the verse), with a louder bombast of guitar during the other segments. This is applied to great effect here, especially on tracks such as "Rings" and "Theme" that serve as majestic works. Outstanding guitar solos, instead of being the showoffs in other genres, provide the lynchpin to the melodies here, as well as the climax of the song. Less Than a Needle, More Than a Shotgun provides a fine example of indie rock, which might teeter on the edge of being overly contemplative, yet never goes quite over.
