The Long Cut + Five Live by

A promotional EP for Anodyne, The Long Cut + Five Live offers the only official document of the seminal country-rock band live. Four of the six selections are found on Anodyne, while the other two are covers of "Truck Drivin' Man" and "Suzy Q." The live cuts were recorded at the Vic Theater in Chicago at a time when Uncle Tupelo was beginning to show signs of wear. The original lineup was gone, Ken Coomer replacing Mike Heidorn on drums, with John Stirrat and Max Johnston added to the group. The lineup is definitely tight; "Truck Drivin' Man" has a rockabilly beat that would make Robert Gordon proud. Jay Farrar also does an admirable job with the "Suzy Q" vocal. A must for completists, but forgetful for those who only have a marginal interest in the band.
