57 Waltz's debut full-length, Argentina, is a collection of playful, slightly bent, and occasionally brilliant indie pop tunes. Guitars play tag with each other, weaving off-kilter melodies and lazy but tuneful riffs. The lyrics are cryptic, intelligent, and snappy. On "She's Sweet," we learn the song's protagonist is "sweet, in a way that other people just don't see. They say she's fakin'." Surprisingly, the album's minimal production acts in the band's favor, exposing their gifts for Pavement-esque interplay. The stand-out "Pep Talk" is a blend of warm acoustic guitar, inventive beats, and excellent vocals. "That Android Lives" is a loose groove in the vein of early Modest Mouse.
