4.0 out of 5 stars Brian Beatty, All Music Guide
In 1987, when Snooks Eaglin made his debut on the Black Top label with Baby, You Can Get Your Gun, few would have guessed that the legendary bluesman was embarking on a fruitful and creative second (or third) career at an age when others would be considering retirement. Culled from his five exceptional albums for Black Top, The Crescent City Collection is a fine sampling of Eaglin's unique musical gumbo of old-fashioned New Orleans R&B, second-line parade rhythms, and guitar fretboard fireworks. This makeshift best-of highlighting Eaglin's later career is a great place for the uninitiated to introduce themselves to Crescent City music. Recommended.
