Released almost a year after The Perfect Prescription came out, Take Me to the Other Side is a bit of an odd single in context, but certainly not on account of its title track. The triumphant, charging lead-off cut from the album, "Take Me to the Other Side" stands up more than well on its own -- an invocation to energy and searching for a drive beyond the bounds of reality. Its half-nagging/half-genius guitar hook sets the stage and the full band performance completes it -- not a full-on blow-the-speakers effort, but with all the energy of one. As for its B-sides, the first, "Soul 1," sounds like a proto-Spiritualized instrumental with its slow, careful pace, twangy lead guitar, and backing trumpet and saxophone, plus some sweetly pretty keyboard providing the lead melody. The other, "That's Just Fine," is also an instrumental; a little more ragged and a bit of a jam, but an amiable bit of fuzz and tremolo nonetheless.
