4.0 out of 5 stars Brian Beatty, All Music Guide
This repackaging of the band's first two albums documents its shift from an avant-funk supergroup of downtown New York improvisers (including John Zorn and Arto Lindsay) to a more mainstream supergroup of traditional and underground rock icons (including Jack Bruce, Michael Stipe, and Richard Thompson). Because the albums are so very different, listeners may find themselves enjoying one half of this CD more than the other. Those with noise leanings should note that due to time limits of the CD format, the debut album's opener, "Clean Plate," is not included on this set.
