Back around 1993, the Muffs brought on an energetic and incredible catchy style of coarse pop-punk. Thanks to the combination of Kim Schattuck's shrieks and stripped down basics of verse-chorus-verse, these guys and girls were way too punk to catch on during the Green Day/Offspring explosion of 1994. Unfortunately, by their third album, Happy Birthday to Me, a lot of the aforementioned edge was lost as the band went more towards a mid-tempo direction of alternative-pop that was just kind of there. And although this single features a combination of the early and later Muff formulas, the attention grabbing screams and fast-paced power punk-pop isn't here. Hopefully Reprise will keep their first two albums in print, instead of remembering the Muffs for their later material and Fruitopia commercials.
