Although they do break from their old formula on this album, Cybele still work very hard to present one of the better goth/alternative albums of 2001. Their songwriting has shifted more towards a Cocteau Twins-style dream pop, which will probably alienate a portion of their fanbase. But this is a surprisingly good album that goes to show that the Norwegian goth scene that developed in the late '90s and produced some descent bands. Especially good are "Unison" and "Dreams," the two songs that come the closest to capturing their older sound. Still, poppier tracks like "Nevereverland" are quite good, reflecting their apparent rethinking of their direction. At this point, the band has a long way to go before they are mentioned in the same sentence as their contemporaries, but this shows a young, promising group that has a remarkable appeal for such a small genre.
