This record is very weird and very fun. Rough As Sausages is a compilation of other recordings from Big Block 454's past. The band is influenced by artists such as Faust, Can, the Residents, Captain Beefheart, Frank Zappa, Syd Barrett, Harry Partch, Bela Bartók, and Brian Eno; and verily their sound reflects these cross-genre influences. Big Block 454's Rough As Sausages is solid; at times captivating and at other times overly self-indulgent. This Manchester, England, based project makes some far-out music. The lineup includes primary members Colin Robinson and Pete Scullion (instruments/computers/voices) and collaborators, as well as sometime members and players Les Howarth (multi-media), Alex Stone (ex-Skoda pilot, new languages, trance-meister), and Mark Joell (keyboards, tentacular voice, Nepalese arse flute).
