Alessandro is a fine guitarist with a rockish tone but a jazz improviser's sensitivity. He also sings pretty well on a few more pop-oriented selections, particularly "Tristezza," though the emphasis is on the instrumentals. In addition to five originals, Alessandro explores "Tristezza," a lazy rendition of "Afro Blue," Keith Jarrett's obscure but catchy "Lucky Southern," and a jazz version of the rock piece "Siberian Khatru." "Show of Life" is a change of pace, for it has Alessandro sounding closer to Wes Montgomery and George Benson in his playing. His quartet is tight and the musicians groove nicely together on both the jazz and the more poppish numbers. An enjoyable set.
