Jason Birchmeier, All Music Guide
Lumin synthesize the respectively endless realms of electronica and world music -- in particular, Middle Eastern music -- on Hadra, its follow-up to Datura, the group's debut album. Hadra primarily features the complimentary talents of group members Jeffery Stott, Michael Emenau, and Irina Mikhailova. Stott and Emenau program most of the music on this album, utiliziling percussion and samples as well as other digital sounds, while Mikhailova supplies the elegant vocals, bringing an ethereal sense of humanity to the music. There is a tremendous variety of different sounds among the nine songs on Hadra, from darbuka rhythms to drum'n'bass motifs. Those who seek a bit more of an exotic and a little less of a by-the-numbers dancefloor approach will appreciate Lumin's style of music on Hadra; it's far from your traditional style of electronica.
