Dropsonic burst out of Atlanta and onto the scene in 2001 with the impressive debut, The Big Nothing. Combining Southern rock grooves with vocal dynamics and histrionics that earn comparisons (rightly) to Thom Yorke, Dropsonic displays a uniqueness that merits attention. The burst out of the gate early with "Stolen" with tight riffs and lyrics that sound like a reaction to post-9/11 America ("fell asleep late last night, watched your troubles on TV, hey, you don't feel safe, anymore, pour yourself a drink my dear and drown yourself in your worst fears"). Not that they're anti-social, "Congregate" calls everyone to the parking lot for a bit of fun on a Saturday. Their slower songs display quite a bit of depth: "Eyesore" sounds a bit like a slower Foo Fighters song, while "It's a Living" verges on the triumphant. A band to watch.
