Ananke was a sadly short-lived project between some of the more talented components of Atlanta's "indie" scene, taking up members from the revered "old school" Atlanta outfits, the Hal Al Shedad and Wheeljack. This EP sounds much like an extension of what those two acts were doing at the end of their respective careers, with quirky guitar lines transposed over solid Drive Like Jehu-ish rhythms and capped off with Benjamin Lukens' unusual, highly affecting vocal style. These self-recorded five songs leave you wrecked, with their mathy off-center progressions, the forceful spit-mouthed lyricism, and overall pleasing dissonance.
