The sweet pop of Kickstand made its CD debut with this 1994 release. After the release of two cassette-only EPs, the band released this 23-track self-titled CD on Queenie Records. The disc includes 14 new songs and nine tracks from the previously released cassettes. The trio (Tammi Colichio on bass and keyboards; Torry Colichio on drums, percussion, and keyboards; and Jeff Feuerzeig on guitar) showcases their versatility on the disc, with vocals by each member and a dizzying variety of indie pop sounds. The Colichio sisters are the main vocal ingredient, with their bright tenor vocals dancing on top of most of the tracks' festive instrumentation. The disc begins with "How to Make a Girl Cry," a pop-filled track of ironic and female-empowering lyrics. Feuerzeig's baritone voice, reminiscent of Calvin Johnson, makes its appearance on the eighth track, "Wish Upon a Star." The instrumental 13th track, "Spiral," is a spellbinding romp, while the next track, "Take the Highway," again features Feuerzeig's deep vocals over a pop-filled foundation. The highlights of the previously released tracks are the wild and bouncy "Spinning Top," the Pastels-influenced "Daydream," and the calm and cool "Get-Well Kiss." The disc ends with the organ pop of "Tally Ho" and the party pop of "Crumble." Kickstand includes lively covers of the Undertones' "Teenage Kicks" and the Young Marble Giants' "Colossal Youth." The disc includes a wealth of guest appearances, including Jad Fair, Fifth Column's Caroline Azar, Flying Saucer's Jeff Kryvicky, and Kicking Giant's Tae Won Yu and Rachel Carns. Most of the tracks were produced by Jeff Feuerzeig.
