Most (if not all) of the material released by Sickness prior to I Have Become the Disease That Made Me consists of obscure and deleted items. This CD is the artist's first widely (so to speak) available album. The name and title say it all, but if you need an extra hint, the Ground Fault label released the album in its Series III (loud) alongside CDs by Government Alpha and RoboChanMan. Sickness tops them both, mainly because attention to dynamics and a sense of drama still prevail through all the distortion and electronic madness. Silence plays a minor but well-defined role. For example, in "The Abuse We Do, Pt. 4," the aural assault often pauses, leaving the listener wondering if and when the next round will come. The means of creation remain undisclosed, but the material sounds more like analog Merzbow (you know, with the mutated guitar/noisemaker) than the latter laptop version. It is violent, brutal, harassing, but not gratuitous and certainly not monotonous -- although you may find listening to the whole 67 minutes in one sitting physically challenging. When it comes to harsh noise, the quality of an album depends a lot on what you want from it. If you are looking for an alienating sound world, you found it, but as painful as it may be, it is too organized and well conceived to be "extreme" (the way Eutectic or Government Alpha can be).
