The Hi Singles A's & B's by
Ann Peebles!
Critic's Review
John Bush, All Music Guide
Ann Peebles' long and successful career at Hi Records, eclipsed only by Al Green, saw her reaching the R&B charts many times during the '70s, and entering the Top 40 in 1973 when "I Can't Stand the Rain" became her brightest moment (and biggest hit). The Hi Singles A's & B's collects all of her singles material from that era, 1969 through 1981, including every one of her chart hits -- the most popular being "Part Time Love," "I Pity the Fool," "Breaking Up Somebody's Home," "I Can't Stand the Rain" -- plus far more material for those who want to dig a little deeper on Memphis' Queen of Soul. The two-disc set works chronologically through her career, presenting the original B-sides close to their flips, and since Peebles' long-players of the '70s weren't as consistent as Green's, The Hi Singles A's & B's is one of the best ways to survey her career.
