Suburban Parallax is immediately remarkable for the range of Liz Evlander's lead vocals. If you didn't know otherwise, you might assume the lower-register vocals to be an entirely different (perhaps even male) member of the band, but they're all her work, with some backup vocal support from guitarist-bassist Jacinta Perram. However, it's the only truly remarkable thing about this debut six-song EP (or mini-album, as the vernacular seemed to be leaning toward in the early 21st century). It's edgy alternative guitar rock with bittersweet vocal blends, sometimes with the dragging-accelerated tempo variance common throughout much of the field in the 1990s and early 2000s.
