During the early '90s, Inspiral Carpets was one of the few bands that defined the Madchester scene for what it really was -- excessive pop music. The Radio 1 Sessions compilation represents Inspiral Carpets' impact on British pop music while highlighting the group's best BBC performances during its eight-year career. Favorites such as "I Want You," "Saturn 5," and "When Worlds Collide" are featured, but other hits such as "Dragging Me Down" and "Commercial Rain" are missing. Fans who already own the band's four albums as well as the definitive Cool As box set might not need to add Radio 1 Sessions to their record collections, but the sound quality itself makes it a remarkable disc worth listening to.
