Abandoning the sensory-assaulting trance rock of their groundbreaking early singles, "Beach Red Lullaby" served notice of the pastoral psychedelia that Flying Saucer Attack would imminently explore on the brilliant Further, a sound paralleling the moody, evocative bliss pop that Rachel Brook first introduced with her own Movietone project. Couched by a fingerpicked acoustic melody that shimmers like beams of light playing on the ocean's surface, Brook's hushed, gentle vocals glow with intimacy, but in truth reveal nothing; like no band before or since, Flying Saucer Attack created music that was comfortingly close, yet a million miles away. The flip side, "Second Hour," harks back to their early days, its gray waves of feedback emanating forward in a kind of slow motion, suggesting a storm front moving in from the distance.
