Over 30 years into his recording career, Sigmund Snopek finally saw his first Christmas album. This nonconformist and usually zany keyboardist actually put together a surprisingly traditional collection of Christmas favorites. Among the most memorable tracks are his original compositions: "Pumpkin Pie Polka" is written in the same style as "Porta Pottie Porka Polka" from Beer and the melancholy "Christmas Lights" is reminiscent of "Waiting for Godot," also from that infamous album. It's ironic that two tracks from Snopek's most irreverent album ever could be compared to companion tracks from probably his most serious album. Instrumental tracks like "Little Drummer Boy," "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," and "The Christmas Song" are pleasant yet straight readings of those Christmas standards, performed almost exclusively on keyboards. His version of "Greensleeves" receives some interesting keyboard treatments bearing an unexpected resemblance to Yanni. This album concludes beautifully with "Silent Night," in which violinist Eric Segnitz duets with Snopek's gentle piano.
