Formed in 1970, Steeleye Span has had a long career bringing rock dynamics to traditional British folk music, sharing an affinity (and even members) with the similar sounding Fairport Convention. Gaudete is somewhat of a mid-period greatest hits for the band, drawing seven songs from 1975's All Around My Hat and a song or two from subsequent albums up through 1980's Sails of Silver.
