Garden of Earthly Delights features 16 of smooth jazz crooner Mark Winkler's songs taken from albums he recorded between 1987 and 2000. The songs chosen all feature backing and accompaniment from the cream of the contemporary jazz scene crop: Boney James, the Rippingtons, Joe Sample, and David Benoit are among those who lend their talents to Winkler's smooth vocals. Highlights of the disc are Winkler's flowing duet with Dianne Reeves on "Garden of Earthly Delights," his restrained and powerful duet with bassist Brian Bromberg (who does his best Jaco impersonation) on "In a Minor Key," and the closest track to straight-ahead jazz here, the bluesy and fun "When All the Lights in the Sign Worked." Fans of Winkler will be delighted by this collection, and as an added bonus for them the disc contains a previously unreleased song recorded in 1989, "Beauty and the Beach."
