Critic's Review

3.0 out of 5 stars Steve Leggett, All Music Guide
Steppenwolf came roaring out of Canada in 1968 with their enduring road anthem "Born to Be Wild" and, riding the back of lead singer John Kay's throaty growl, recorded two more giant hits, "Magic Carpet Ride" and "Rock Me," and the defining version of Hoyt Axton's edgy "The Pusher" before running out of gas in the early '70s. This generous 19-track collection has all the hits and several key album tracks. Although somewhat of a one trick pony, Steppenwolf did that one trick awfully well. "Born to Be Wild" will never die as long as they continue to put motors in vehicles.
