Perhaps only second to the Bee Gees, Chic remains a band that automatically comes to mind when you think of the late-'70s disco movement. With their up-tempo rhythms and air-tight grooves, Chic were responsible for countless dancefloor anthems, and unlike most of their contemporaries at the time, their music holds up incredibly well today. With the "tribute album" craze of the late-'90s/early 21st century, it was only a matter of time until a similarly styled album focused on Chic, and that album surfaced in 2003 under the title of Freak and More Treats. But this isn't your average, ordinary tribute set as 13 Chic favorites were "updated" under the watchful eye of founding members Nile Rodgers and the late Bernard Edwards, and feature guest spots by the likes of Duran Duran's Simon LeBon, Ashford & Simpson, and Omar Hakim, among others. Usually when artists go back and "remake" their classics, the results are certainly less than extraordinary -- often not even coming close to comparing to the originals.
