The introspective, often hypnotic new age piano project Lunz teams well-known pianist Tim Story with the trippy soundscapes of Hans-Joachim Roedelius, well known for his early work with pioneering Krautrock band Cluster and later ambient recordings. Most of the tunes, like the opener "Something Happened Here" and "Murmuring Mermaids," combine lush, David Lanz-like piano meditations with unusual synth-generated sounds to create unusual ambiences. Others like "Under Mars We Were" begin with haunting, spacy sounds that are designed to create mood but sometimes grow a wee bit annoying as you wait for some melody to develop.
