There is no debate that Johnny Cash is a classic American voice, and this collection presents several solid reasons for that ("I Walk the Line," "Hey Porter," "Cry, Cry, Cry," "Big River"), but there are countless anthologies of his work on the market, many with a greater sweep than this one. You won't have wasted your money if you pick this one up, however, since every track here shows the stripped-down elegance of Johnny Cash & the Tennessee Two, and it's still a treat to hear Cash humming to keep his place between the verses on "I Walk the Line."
