Foreigner's track record of hitmaking was nearly unparalleled in the 1970s and 1980s, and the 2003 DVD 25 All Access Tonight was filmed mostly on the band's 25th anniversary tour in 2002. Bandleader, lead guitarist, and keyboardist Mick Jones and vocalist Lou Gramm are the sole original members of the band; the lineup is rounded out by keyboardist Jeff Jacobs, bass guitarist Bruce Turgon (who played with Gramm on his solo albums and in the short-lived supergroup Shadow King), guitarist/saxophonist Thom Gimbel, and drummer Denny Carmassi (a veteran of Montrose, Heart, and others). It's not a typical concert DVD. In fact, it's more of a documentary than anything, which makes it of interest to die-hard fans only. Jones had the band's www.foreigneronline.com webmaster, Justin Bourgerie, shoot footage along the tour trail both for the Foreigner archives and for posting on the website. It was decided to create an entire movie from the four-and-a-half-month North American trek. Bourgerie was the sole cameraman, so the angles and views are limited, and the sound quality is OK, but not great. Songs include classic anthems like "Double Vision," "Cold As Ice," "Head Games," "Feels Like the First Time," "Urgent," and "Hot Blooded." The biggest surprise is the Jones-sung ballad "Fool for You Anyway." The revelatory behind-the-scenes footage shows the tedium and drudgery of rock star life on the road: hotel check-in in the middle of the night, meet-and-greet appearances, press interviews, boring bus rides, soundchecks, dressing-room down time, and so forth. Those 22 hours or so of numbing off-stage time each day are what grind away at the sanity of touring musicians. A bonus feature is an electrifying performance of "I Want to Know What Love Is," with Jones and Gramm sitting in with a full symphony orchestra and choir at Night of the Proms in Antwerp, Belgium, in October 2002. ~ Bret Adams, All Music Guide [-] Collapse
