Sam & Dave were responsible for some of soul music's best moments, most of which are included on the 16-track compilation Hold On I'm Comin'. Although not as extensive as other collections on the market (such as their best-known set, 1969's Best of Sam & Dave on the Atlantic label), Hold On is a worthy collection nonetheless -- few were able to match such uptempo hits as "Soul Man" and "I Thank You," nor when they took it down a notch, as on "Hold On! I'm Coming" and "Soothe Me." Also, you'll find such additional standouts as "Soul Sister, Brown Sugar" and "When Something Is Wrong With My Baby," as well as covers from the same era that Sam & Dave were at their peak -- Otis Redding's "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay" and Steve Winwood's "Gimme Some Loving." A highly recommended set of classic Sam & Dave, Hold On I'm Comin' covers all the bases.
