Engineered by ex-Shoe Jeff Murphy, which should clue you in to the sound fancied by this Illinois quartet. From the thick buzz of Dave Kay's guitar to the retro-power pop moves of songwriters Kay and Richard Smith, this is an engaging, tuneful, if slight bit of late-'80s jangle. Yes, it sounds like The Shoes, but not to the point of sounding like clones. The LP's opener, "Down For the Count," kicks up a mighty fine ruckus that is sustained right through the closer, "Are You On The Bus." Nothing here is really mind-boggling, just good singin' and unobtrusive playin' that perhaps came along five years too late.
