The title track of Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn's second duet album, Lead Me On, was the pair's second single and gave them their second number one hit. If they seemed charmed at this point, they would soon appear invincible as they hit the top spot again and again. The interesting thing about Lead Me On is that there is so much steel guitar on these cuts it sounds as though they didn't even try to make another crossover contender like "After the Fire Is Gone." Some of the material has a country-pop pedigree, namely Freddie Hart's "Easy Loving" and Bobby Edwards' "You're the Reason," but the presentation is pure country. There are a few old-fashioned cheating songs of the sort at which Twitty and Lynn excel, a bow to honky tonk heritage with Webb Pierce's "Back Street Affair," and one bit of modern slang wrapped in straight country music (Billy Edd Wheeler's "You Blow My Mind").
