kenowar's Album Review for Allroy's Revenge

""
Their best
A great, forward thinking pop-punk record (by the guys who invented the now poisoned term). ALL took the jazz-fusion influence even further than later Descendents, and with the departure of Dave Smalley, new singer Scott Reynolds' voice worked well and was vesatile enough to keep up. Several of their best songs are here, "She's my Ex," "Scary Sad," and the cassette only "Carnage" (perhaps their best song ever). "Bubble Gum" and "Mary" also round out the pop laced number, while the rest of the album, explores off times signatures, noodling, Billy Cobham-like drum modulations, interpsersed with gorgeous pop. These were punk veterans and great musicians in their late 20s who were truly doing something interesting and compelling for the genre. After two more albums they would again change vocalists, record a few good records, and ultiamtely slip into unremarkable rock punk, but this is their apex. The most daring pop-punk record of all time.
