Swedish teen black metal band Amsvartner was formed in late 1994 by bassist Albin Johansson and his twin brother Alfred (drums), both all of 12 years old at the time; co-founding guitarist Jonathan Holmgren was only two years older. Originally dubbed Awakening, the group's line-up was complete with the additions of the twins' older brother Marcus on vocals and Daniel Nygaard on guitar, and in the autumn of 1995 they recorded their first demo. A second Amsvartner demo, Underneath the Thousand Years Gate, was recorded a year later, and in 1999 the band issued their proper debut Trollish Mirror.
