Anton Kraft
Throughout his career Kraft was a student of the cello. He began lessons with Werner and was able to study composition with Haydn. Kraft's connection with Werner enabled him to obtain a position with The Esterhazy's and to meet with Haydn. By 1790 he was the cellist of the orchestra for Prince Antal Grassalkovich de Gyarak in Bratislavia followed by an appointment to the orchestra of The Lobkowitz's in Vienna. Kraft also became the leading cellist at the Gesellschaft in Vienna up until his death. As a virtuoso Kraft traveled to Berlin and Prague for performances and was applauded for his emotive playing, adequate compositions, and pieces composed by both Haydn and Beethoven for him ("Cello Concerto in D-dur" and "Triple Concerto" respectively). ~ Keith Johnson, All Music Guide
