Astral Archetype formed in early 2005 when Kevin Boyle (bass/vocals) and Steve Murtaugh (guitar/vocals) met and began talking music. The two felt that their diverse musical tastes (Kev: mostly metal and Steve: mostly prog) would complement each other perfectly in a band format. Kev and Steve began getting together frequently to jam and write, eventually bringing in drummer Tom Burget (Ignota, Radio Eris) to complete the first line up of Astral Archetype. After a year of writing and endless jamming, the trio began playing a variety of venues in the Philadelphia region including The Fire, Fergie's, and Eris Temple in Philadelphia, as well as the Rusty Nail in Ardmore, PA and John & Peter's in New Hope, PA. Astral Archetype also recorded their debut EP Deconstructing a Coincidence during this period. In mid-2008, the second line up of Astral Archetype began performing with Chris Kulp (Mischief Brew, Red Devil) on drums. The new trio performed at the Highwire Gallery and The North Star Bar in Philadelphia, and at the Rusty Nail in Ardmore, PA. At the end of 2008, Astral Archetype brought in Brian Deal (Polterchrist) on drums for a special New Year's Eve performance. Now into their fifth year of existence, Astral Archetype looks forward to expanding their audience and sound even further.
