Barone Brothers

Gary and Mike Barone were from Cleveland. Gary Barone played trumpet and flueglhorn and was the younger brother. He recorded and performed with Stan Kenton's Los Angeles Neophonic Orchestra in the mid-'60s, then worked with Gerald Wilson, his brother Mike's orchestra, Bud Shank and Shelly Manne in the late '60s and early '70s. He played on film and television soundtracks during the '70s, and with Frank Zappa, Willie Bobo and Frank Strazzeri. He and his brother co-led a band that recorded in 1979. Mike Barone moved to Los Angeles afer his discharge from the army in the late '50s, where he'd played in bands. He worked with Si Zentner, Louis Bellson and Gerald Wilson, while playing with Dave Grusin, Tom Scott and Lalo Schifrin. He led the first big band at Donte's in 1967. He has concentrated on composing and arranging since then, doing arrangements for several television programs and commercials. His assignments have included scores for the Grammy and Oscar telecasts. ~ Ron Wynn, All Music Guide
