Bazil Donovan
Bazil Donovan is the bassist (and lead singer on the rousing concert favorite "Little Old Wine Drinker Me") for the popular Canadian band Blue Rodeo. "Baz" was born in Halifax but raised in Toronto. He started playing professionally at 17, and in 1980 joined a new wave band called Sharks that included future Blue Rodeo drummer Cleave Anderson. In 1984, after playing in a couple of other groups, Donovan answered an ad posted by songwriting partners Jim Cuddy and Greg Keelor in NOW magazine. Unbenownst to Donovan, his old friend Cleave Anderson had already joined Blue Rodeo. The Toronto group's first gig came six months later at The Rivoli. Donovan also plays in Oh Susanna's touring band and co-wrote two songs on her 2001 album Sleepy Little Sailor. ~ Erik Hage, All Music Guide
