This producer and recording engineer can take delight in having nabbed one of the most important credits in hip-hop history by being part of the team behind "Rapper's Delight." Rappers and fans of rap also took great delight in what was considered to be the first hip-hop hit, even though there are listeners who feel the Sugarhill Gang were not seriously committed to the genre. Along with Nate Edmonds, Jones worked closely with Sylvia Robinson, fellow producer and owner of the Sugarhill label from which both the group and hit record were spooned out. The production team later initiated the Turbo label and attempted further success on the rap scene with the group Positive Force, promising that "We Got the Funk." The hip-hop crowd was much less delighted with this claim, however. Jones could tile all the floors of a mansion, which hopefully he has, with copies of the various compilations and collections that include Sugarhill Gang material that he mixed.
