Born and raised in California but currently based in NY, Bob Hillman is a quirky folk-rocker with a dry sense of humor and a knack for witty, clever lyrics. The obscure but talented singer/songwriter, who shouldn't be confused with veteran Los Angeles Times rock critic Robert Hilburn, moved to NY in 1994. By day, Hillman earned his living helping to prepare high school students for the SAT and other standardized tests--and at night, he performed his songs in the clubs of Manhattan. Hillman had been playing Manhattan's singer/songwriter circuit for several years when he caught the attention of producer Tommy West, formerly of Cashman & West--a 1960s/1970s duo that was known for its work with Jim Croce, the Partridge Family and Spanky & Our Gang, among others. In 1999, West produced Hillman's debut album, Playing God, for Sliced Bread, a small indie label based in the Philadelphia suburb of Blue Bell, PA.
